Welcome to Egmont & The Skookumchuk

What could be more relaxing, fresh air, ocean view and the only sounds are birds and waves.

My husband and I recently vacationed on the Sunshine Coast, where we were fortunate to have spent a night at Bathgate Resort in Egmont BC. Our room was perrfeccct, our balcony overlooked the ocean and forested coastline, a view we will never forget. The herons were fishing in the low tide and starfish covered all the rocks.

Our room had WiFi and satellite TV, we were both suprised as our cell phones did not provide service in many places on the Peninsula. If you like your own company, wilderness and the simple life, you must give it a try. An amazing part of our Province.

Found exactly what we needed to supplement our camping supplies in the well stocked general store, and the prices weren’t bad for a convenience store. Service was friendly and staff was knowledgable (knew exactly where everything was when asked).

We liked it very much. We were lucky to get the 2-bedroom-appartment, which was very nice! Everything we needed was there: well-equipped kitchen, large bathroom, balcony, shop with a good choice, laundryroom … the owners were very helfpful in everything. That made our stay very nice!

Our stay at the Bathgate Marina was very enjoyable and as we were on a boating holiday the owners local knowledge was very helpful.

There is a fuel dock and a very well stocked store with anything the boater would required. This is a great place to start and end your vacation. All rooms have a great water view and are very quiet and receive ample morning sunshine, wild life abounds and Skookumchuck Rapids are close by via a great hike.

Room Tip: There are only 4 rooms and all have great views of the Marina and the inlet.

I found the hotel to be very clean, all rooms have an ocean view.  Very relaxing watching the wildlife and the boats come and go.  I was in for a real treat, 2 killer whales came into the inlet and put on a wonderful show.  I heard it was the second time this year whales have been spotted here.  I had never seen one in the wild before.  It was spectacular.

I will not hesitate to stay at Bathgate’s next time I am in Egmont. I would suggest get a room with a kitchen (which are fully equipped with dishes and cooking supplies).

Rick and I recently stayed in your RV spot over the long weekend. We had to leave early on Tuesday morning before you opened. We really wanted to say how much we enjoyed our stay in your beautiful area. Also, we wanted to thank you for the prawns. They were by far the best prawns we have ever had! They were so sweet! It was more like eating lobster than prawns. Wow… that really topped off our trip.

Thanks again and we’ll be seeing you again someday in the future!

If you like small and friendly, then go to Egmont, BC. Stay at the Bathgate Resort! Yes it has only 5 rooms but each has a balcony overlooking the harbour. The folks are friendly, the rooms are clean, there’s wi-fi and you’re within walking distance of the Skookumchuck! It’s an adventure we much enjoyed.

So pleasantly surprised at the quality of this facility. Our family loved the superb location of the resort and our room with an incredibly beautiful ocean view from where we sat and watched eagles and herons fish, and marine vessels coming in or going out the harbour. From our well-appointed, clean, and lovely furnished room, we were so comfortable we had that ‘home feeling’ rather than just another motel.

The Bathgate Resort came to us accidentally as we had no plans and no place to stay. After recent heart surgery, my husband could not even walk part way to the bakery let alone to the Skookumchuck rapids, but the wonderful lady at the Egmont museum suggested inquiring at the Bathgate store for information on a water taxi. There we found yet another helpful, kind woman! She gave us the water taxi number, directed us to a phone, found us other people to share the price of the taxi, booked us into very spacious accommodation, while patiently serving other customers and businesses. Although we arrived earlier then check in time, the cleaning lady allowed us to enter and rest while enjoying the balcony before the 4pm tide change would make the rapids be at the 7′ maximum height for that day. The other bonus: The place was quiet!!
Every need and problem can be solved at the Bathgate: food, accommodation, directions, quiet, nature both land and sea, good roads, amusement, quiet.

I found the owner Vicky Martin and her workers very friendly and helpful. I stayed for one night in preparation for a memorial service for my mother Audree (Thomas) Ismailoff who had lived at ‘Ballet Bay’ as a young girl with her father, Harry, mother ‘Midge’, and brother Chuck Thomas. Vicky was especially helpful and understanding. I found the hotel to be clean and well kept in a beautiful location with all rooms having balconies overlooking a lovely waterfront. One of the nicest places I have stayed at, Thank you Vicky and company for a short but memorable stay.
