SKOOKUMCHUCK NARROWS PROVINCIAL PARK
Only a short walk to the park’s entrance for the approximate 45 minute walk/hike to see our world-famous standing waves in the Narrows (and if you’re lucky, whitewater kayakers and paddleboarders showing their stuff).
On a 3 metre – 9.84 feet – tide change, 200 billion gallons of water rush through the pinch points of the narrows between Jervis Inlet and Sechelt Inlet. This means you need to time your walk for best viewing times at the Narrows, not high or low tide changes. Ideally you should time your arrival to be at the mid-point of the tide cycle for the maximum volume of water and highest tidal flow speeds. Volume flows reach up to 15+ knots on tidal changes of 16+ ft (5.0 metres). (for best viewing times, please see Bigpacific.com’s downloadable 2015 Tide Viewing PDF.
Roland Point, the first tidal viewing access point, is best for flooding (high) tide changes, while North Point is another .5km and is best for ebbing, or falling, tides.
Dogs should be on leashes and children under complete supervision at all times at North Point as there is no fencing at this level viewing location.
